PTL’s focus is on oceanographic instrumentation with a heavy emphasis in SONARs and acoustics. Personnels' experience over the last 20 years has been heavily weighted in this area. Work has included development of a wide array of SONARs particularly sub-bottom profilers but also a SAS system, passive acoustic hydrophones, arrays and recorders, in-situ shear and compressional SONARs, backscatter SONARs, a miniature ADCP, the Bottom Sediment Classifier (BSC which is a program of record for the U.S. Navy’s MCM vessels), low noise SONAR preamps (low to high frequency), SONAR amplifiers, acoustic burial sensors as well as an acoustic pipe flow sensor instrument. Work includes requirements definition, system design, the design of system components, software development, algorithm development, analysis, testing, optimization, troubleshooting and more. Work has included both linear and non-linear (parametric) acoustics. In addition, to the acoustics experience PTL personnel have worked with studying mine burial processes which deals primarily with understanding how, where and why mine shaped objects bury. PTL personnel have also worked with geotechnical research instruments and sensors with the purpose of understanding the properties of sediments and their effects on sound.Personnel have extensive experience interfacing sensors to autonomous underwater vehicles as well as remote operated vehicles.
The knowledge and creative energy required to work with research systems lends itself to development of other types of systems. Personnel have developed many software applications for visualizing and analyzing data, developed high performance thermometer electronics, developed automated wireless stream gages, developed wireless camera systems, a multispectral, aerial camera processing system, designed fiber optic transceivers, developed orientation monitoring instrumentation, designed wireless tracking devices and many other devices too numerous to list.
Given these past experiences, PTL is offering the following services and capabilities:
